Liz Hughes has worked in the cultural sector for 20 years as a filmmaker, curator and senior executive arts manager. Her films have screened at over 130 film festivals, winning 21 international awards, sold to a number of TV networks and have been featured in a book alongside short films by Jim Jarmusch and Roman Polanski. She has directed documentaries for the Indigenous media group CAAMA, as well as episodes of the children's TV series Short Cuts, which received an Australian Film Institute award in 2002.

As Artistic Director and Executive Director of contemporary arts organisation Experimenta, Liz contributed significantly to the organization's transformation and success through her efforts to reposition Experimenta, generate inspiring and accessible programming, expand its funding and client base, develop its reputation as the leading digital media organization, foster new local partnerships and international networks and grow its commercial consultancy operations.

While at Experimenta, Liz drove, managed, curated, co-curated, and toured a number of ambitious digital media biennales, including Playground, House of Tomorrow and Vanishing Point, which have attracted unprecedented and diverse audiences and extensive media coverage, both in Australia and overseas. Liz has also curated and overseen Experimenta's overseas exhibitions in UK, Korea, Japan, Singapore, China, and Brazil. These projects gained critical attention, attracted record audiences for the venue and gained significant media coverage.

Currently as Director of AFTRS Open at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).  Liz is responsible for running over 240 quality short courses annually throughout Australia, the Indigenous Program and instigating strategic initiatives and partnerships.
