Cinematographers bring art and technology together as they work with directors to tell stories...

 

  • AFTRS takes applications just once a year, generally at the start of September for intake into the following year.
  • AFTRS holds its annual OPEN DAYS and course information sessions  in September.
  • The 2013 Open Days will be held on September 7 & 8
  • 2014 Courses will be available to view on September 1, 2013

 

The Cinematography department at AFTRS offers the following POSTGRADUATE level courses specifically for cinematographers:

 

  • GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN CINEMATOGRAPHY FUNDAMENTALS

Immerse yourself in the creative & technical aspects of cinematography for the screen.


If you are an emerging cinematographer keen to expand and deepen your knowledge and training, this course will teach you to visualise, frame, light and interpret stories visually. If you are working in a related area, such as camera assisting or stills photography, this course will support your development in becoming a cinematographer. You will explore the professional, technical and theory based abilities required to work as a cinematographer as well as the important roles of camera assistant and data wrangler.

  • GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN CINEMATOGRAPHY

Extend yourself to a new level of cinematic achievement.


You will build on your existing experience in the most immersive cinematography course in Australia. Through a series of drama and documentary workshops you will hone your technique and creativity as you collaborate with other students. Develop your cinematographic expertise, working on a broad range of digital and film formats as you learn to unlock the keys to powerful visuals for storytelling.

  • MASTER OF SCREEN ARTS

Explore and develop your own creative process and voice

An in-depth conceptual and practically focused course that will help you achieve mastery in your chosen area of specialisation. You will be supported to map out your own path in what is an increasingly competitive marketplace collaborating with others to achieve a distinctive work whilst exploring the relevant theories of filmmaking. You will be expected to develop and make an individual work or work collaboratively on a joint project.
