Screen Designers perform a vital creative role as they work with Directors to create a visual world that supports both characters and the story...

 

  • AFTRS takes applications just once a year, generally at the start of September for intake into the following year.
  • AFTRS holds its annual OPEN DAYS and course information sessions in September.
  • The 2013 Open Days will be held on September 7 & 8
  • 2014 Courses will be available to view on September 1, 2013

 

The Screen Design department at AFTRS offers the following POSTGRADUATE courses specifically for costume designers & production designers:

  • GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN COSTUME DESIGN

Focus your visual skills in fashion, costume, observation, research and design to tell stories.


This course will give you the conceptual and logistical skills needed to imagine the story of a script, collaborate with actors, and to describe and define a character's personality through costume. Creating costume design that translates, supports and gives life to a director's vision is an exciting achievement. Through exercises exploring a script in regard to story, characters, themes and stylistic elements, you will have an opportunity to put the creative and practical elements of costume design into practice.

Redirect your design and artistic skills to design stories onscreen.


Focus your visual skills in art, observation, research and design to tell stories by learning the conceptual and logistical skills needed to visually interpret, communicate and realise a screen project. Creating a production's design through visual storytelling that translates, supports and gives life to a director's vision is an exciting achievement. You will explore a script in regard to story, characters, themes and stylistic elements and practise the creative and practical elements of production design through collaborative workshops.

  • MASTER OF SCREEN ARTS

Explore and develop your own creative process and voice

An in-depth conceptual and practically focused course that will help you achieve mastery in your chosen area of specialisation. You will be supported to map out your own path in what is an increasingly competitive marketplace collaborating with others to achieve a distinctive work whilst exploring the relevant theories of filmmaking. You will be expected to develop and make an individual work or work collaboratively on a joint project.
