The library holds subscriptions to a variety of specialist databases. Most of these databases are accessible via the library and throughout AFTRS and interstate offices. Use them to find references to articles on film, television, radio and new media.

The licensing agreements do not permit access outside AFTRS.

 FIAF Index to Film Periodicals Plus

 

Access this database online only from within AFTRS.

 

FIAF Index to Film Periodicals Plus is a full-text and bibliographic resource offering coverage of hundreds of the world's foremost academic and popular film journals to the present day covering information on film and television published by the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), and included in the FIAF International FilmArchive Database. It covers film literature from more than 300 periodicals since 1972 and television literature from 1979 until 2000. Each entry consists of a full bibliographic description, an abstract and comprehensive headings (biographical names, film titles and general subjects).

 

It is the only database offering subject indexing of film periodicals from a controlled thesaurus.

Film Index International

 

Access this database online only from within AFTRS.

 

Film Index International is a database that covers films, feature films, selected shorts, documentaries, television movies, cinema, brief biographies of personalities, awards, directors, production companies, credits, cast, genre, plot synopsis, actors, actresses. Provides information on 90,000 films produced from 1895. It contains citations of reviews and journal articles, as well as cast and credits.

Factiva

 

Access this database online only from within AFTRS

 

The database contains more than 8,000 overseas and Australian newspaper and newswire publications and more than 9,000 web sites. For Australian news sources, the Fairfax publications archive covers Sydney Morning Herald 1986+ and Australian Financial Review 1982+ (abstracts only) and the News Limited archive covers The Australian 1996+ .

There is also a one year archive of media transcripts from the ABC, SBS and Channel 9. Overseas media transcript archives vary, but may be up to 5 years. Pictures of major news events and reports also are available.

Access this database online - This database was closed in 2001.

 

Film Literature Index Online database covers approximately 700,000 citations to articles, film reviews and book reviews published between 1976 - 2001. 150 film and television periodicals from 30 countries have been fully indexed.
