NEW JOURNAL ARTICLES

Cinefex, April 2012.

This issue talks about the effects of Red tails, John Carter, The adventures of Tintin and Mission: impossible - ghost protocol.

Media international Australia, February 2012.

Madman Entertainment: a case study in 'by fans for fans' media distribution, p. 5. "This article is part of a larger research project looking at the role of Australian media companies in sustaining fan and Australian investment in global popular culture. This article focuses on Madman Entertainment - one of the most successful DVD and merchandise distribution companies in Australia and the leading distributor of anime, with over 90% of the market share. It explores the ways in which Madman has become a part of the simultaneous globalisation and localisation of Japanese cultural products, and sets out to show how profiling such a company can also provide some insight into the changing role of fans in driving innovation and investment in popular culture."

Moviescope, March/April 2012.

Blind faith, p. 24. "With The cabin in the woods and Avengers assemble both hitting cinemas in April, and TV shows like Buffy the vampire slayer, Angel and Dollhouse enjoying enduring popularity, Joss Whedon has become Hollywood's go-to screenwriter. Here he reveals how he juggles so many projects."

Sight & sound, April 2012.

Act of faith, p. 36. "In the summer of 1954, Jan Wahl was a young American student on a Fulbright scholarship to the University of Copenhagen when he had the chance to spend some time with the Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer. The film Dreyer was shooting that summer was 'Ordet' (The word), subsequently acclaimed as one of the director's greatest - and one of the most moving explorations of faith in all cinema. Wahl's transcriptions of his conversations with Dreyer form the basis of a newly published memoir, of which this is an edited extract."

The hand that rocked the Kremlin, p. 46. "Born 100 years ago, the Czech artist Jirí Trnka spent his career bringing fairytales magically to life, in book illustrations and puppet animation - until his last film turned his talents to a devastating allegory of Stalinism."
