In 1994 AFTRS established an Indigenous program initiative - IPI - to achieve two specific objectives:

  • Identify and nurture Indigenous screen and broadcast practitioners
  • Increase the number of Indigenous Australian producers, directors and scriptwriters.

Today IPI is a national program that enables Indigenous Australians to refine their creative and technical skills in all of the discipline areas offered by AFTRS from film, television, radio, screen composition, location sound, production design through to digital media.
