With a unique place in the Australian awards landscape, the AWGIEs are judged on the scripts–the writer's intention–rather than the finished production.

Fifteen AFTRS alumni were nominated this year across a wide array of categories as was AFTRS student film Foal written/directed by Vanessa Gazy.

Three AFTRS alumni succeeded in taking home an AWGIE from the 2015 Australian Writers' Guild awards night held on September 11 in Sydney:

Michael Lucas (2005) was a co-winner of the Television - Series category for his work on Offspring: Episode 511 while Jacquelin Perske (1993) Stuart Beattie, Shaun Grant and Cate Shortland (1999) picked up the win for the Television Mini Series - Original for 'Deadline Gallipoli'

Congratulations to all of the winners at the 48th annual AWGIE awards.
