News: Academy Award Nominee

Jan 15 2016

Big news in overnight ... Congratulations to AFTRS editing alumnus Margaret Sixel (1989) on her Academy Award nomination for her work on George Miller's post-apocalyptic, 2015 box-office hit, Mad Max: Fury Road.

Margaret was given the task to create this high-octane blockbuster movie out of 470 hours of footage. Previously she has worked with director —and husband—George on Babe: Pig in the City (1998) and Happy Feet (2006).

“Film is a mosaic art. A lot like music. It’s astonishing how even a subtle rearrangement can have a potent effect” - Margaret Sixel.

Mad Max: Fury Road leads the Australian nominations at this year's Academy Awards, across an incredible 10 categories including Best Picture and Director. The film was the second most nominated film of the year.

The 88th Academy Awards will take place at Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Centre on Sunday, February 28.

Congratulations to Margaret and to all the other 2016 nominees.
