Ivan Sen's Outback Thriller 'Goldstone' to Open this year's 2016 Sydney Film Festival

Gary Maddox wrote in the Sydney Morning Herald today, “Australian filmmaker Ivan Sen (1997) never does things by halves. Not only does he write, direct, shoot, edit and compose the music for his films but he is opening the Sydney Film Festival for the second time in just four years” in response to the announcement today by festival director Nashen Moodley that AFTRS alumnus Ivan Sen will see his new outback thriller Goldstone hae its world premiere at the opening night gala in June.

Goldstone continues where Mystery Road (which opened the 2013 festival) left off with outback detective Jay Swan--played by Aaron Pederson--taking on a missing persons investigation in a remote mining town which quickly unravels.

With an A-list cast that includes Jacki Weaver, David Gulpilil, Tom E. Lewis, David Wenham and Cheng Pei-pei the film was shot in rural western Queensland.

“The Sydney Film Festival is very proud to open with the world premiere of this outstanding Australian film” Moodley said of Goldstone adding that it is “… a complex and layered work that comes together brilliantly in Ivan Sen’s signature outback noir style.”

Goldstone was produced by David Jowsey and Greer Simpkin, and will be distributed by Transmission Films with a national theatrical release on June 30.

The Sydney Film Festival runs from June 8-19. The entire Sydney Film Festival program will be revealed on Wednesday May 11.
