This practical intensive emphasises the importance of a designer's ability to translate a director’s vision - and collaborate with actors in order to tell a story through the development and look of their characters. Students will examine the creative process of the costume designer, their roles and responsibilities in relation to all aspects of the filmmaking process, the logistics of managing schedule and budget, and coordinating a Costume Department.

In this class, you will:

  • Analyse, research and evaluate a script as it relates creatively to story, character, visual approach and costume design, and as it relates to management, budget and schedule

  • Distinguish and describe the key roles in filmmaking within the Costume Department and communicate effectively with relevant crew members and actors

  • Identify the individual costume requirements of actors and facilitate the different methods used to meet those requirements

  • Apply techniques and demonstrate design skills including both traditional and digital approaches to concept illustration and costume design documentation
