In this five day intensive you'll learn essential radio skills from experienced radio industry professionals and gain the confidence to begin your career in radio. From roles and responsibilities and announcing and presentation, to editing and studio skills we've got it all covered.


Day 1: Introduction to radio, radio styles, roles and responsibilities, editorial and where stories come from plus how to tell them. Followed by a technical overview of studio, field recorders and editing equipment

Day 2: Announcing and presentation basics - writing, speaking, news reading and interviewing

Day 3: Editing, audio and making a radio package

Day 4: Studio practice, package preparation and more

Day 5: Bringing it all together -- present a live radio program from the AFTRS Radio Studio in teams of two with group and private feedback

This course is only open to students aged 18 +. If you are under 18, you will not be eligible to attend this course.


Very intense Mon - Friday full time course. Some preparation work recquired in the evenings during the course.


Rachel Corbett

Rachel Corbett is a writer, radio and TV presenter, podcaster and voice over artist with over 15 years experience creating content for Australia's largest media organisations. She's presented breakfast shows for radio stations across the country including Hit 107 Adelaide, Hit 929 Perth and Triple M Melbourne. She's also hosted local and national drive shows for Triple M Sydney, most recently co-hosting Merrick and the Highway Patrol with Merrick Watts and Jules Schiller. Rachel appears regularly on TV (The Today Show, The Project, Paul Murray Live, The Verdict) and is a columnist for newspapers and online publications including The Daily Telegraph,, Mamamia and The Huffington Post.


Jess Campanaro

Jessica Campanaro is a media professional with 16 years experience. An accomplished radio journalist, news presenter and editor, Jess is also an experienced Communications trainer. Jess spent 10 years at Sydney’s No. 1 talkback station 2GB, as Deputy News Director, reporter, and presenter. Jess is a regular lecturer, working with the Radio students at AFTRS. She facilitates Communication Training and Media Skills courses. Jess previously produced and co-presented for the Mark Bouris podcast.

AFTRS reserves the right to cancel any course for any reason at any time. In the event of a course being cancelled a full refund of course fees will be provided. If a participant wishes to withdraw from a course, they may do so up to 15 days before the course commences and get a full refund.
