This two day intensive, presented in conjunction with SPA (Screen Producers Australia), is all about setting up and building a Screen Business. The workshop covers the commercial framework in which producers must operate, including issues surrounding the operation a of creative business from the ground up.

The Business Essentials program is vital for start ups while also serving as a refresher for established businesses. The course structure covers:

The main course convenor is Owen Johnston. Owen Johnston has worked for Screen Producers Australia for over a decade in both policy and industrial relations. Owen has produced feature films, documentaries, television drama, and commercials and is a former Director of Film Development and Marketing at the Australian Film Commission.
