In this three day course kids will learn the craft of storytelling, and how it applies to scriptwriting. They will learn about creating characters, settings, story and theme and write a short film script.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN The focus of this course is the craft of telling a really good story - kids will dissect their favourite stories and films down to the elements that make them great and then use what they have learned to create new stories. The lecturer will then teach the structural and stylistic elements of screenwriting and students will turn their stories into storyboards and finally a screenplay. An important focus of the course will be collaborative creativity with kids working together to brainstorm, develop, workshop and write their ideas as well as to provide careful and constructive critique of other writers.
STUDENT FEEDBACK“I loved learning how actual scripts are written and the way the class was taught because they let us do our own ideas and it wasn’t too controlled”
“I loved all the fun games that told you about script setup” “My daughter has already asked to come again”
LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE This course will suit students who enjoy working on individual projects, and have a good level of literacy - a lot of reading and writing is involved.
WORKLOAD There will be some writing work suggested for students to do in the evening of Days 1 and 2.
