Tony Rasmussen

Lecturer - Radio

Tony is a highly experienced radio professional with rich and varied experience in broadcasting and multimedia over a 40-year career at the ABC.

With a Bachelor of Arts in English and History, Tony gained extensive hands-on experience as a radio producer at702 ABC Sydney, where he’s worked on every key shift. These included producing the Andrew Olle program for five years, Jenny Brockie and Jennifer Byrne on Mornings, and Drive with Mike Carlton.

Tony has also been a Content Director for Regional Radio in NSW, as well as  Editor of Networked Local Radio where he supervised the output of ABC Local’s national portfolio of programs, including Tony Delroy’s Nightlife; Overnights with Trevor Chappell and Rod Quinn; Australia All Over with Ian McNamara; Saturday Night Country; the Indigenous program Speaking Out; and the religion and ethics program Sunday Night with John Cleary. With Monica Attard he devised and introduced the national program Sunday Profile, heard on Local Radio and replayed on Radio National.

Most recently, Tony was Manager of Regional Local Radio at the ABC, a senior role that saw him overseeing the editorial and operational activities of Local Radio nationally, leading a team of over 300 Local and ABCRural content makers across the country.

Tony loves radio and is passionate about good storytelling. He has a track record in identifying and developing talent, and in seizing new opportunities to build radio’s presence with contemporary cross-media content in existing and new markets.
