AFTRS GRADUATES FEATURE IN ENCORE’S POWER 50

Seven AFTRS graduates have made it in to Encore magazine's Power 50 list - a comprehensive list of the top 50 professionals working across all areas of film, television and TVC production, as well as key leaders and decision-makers.

 

The list was compiled after consultation with screen agencies and industry organisations, as well as nominations by Encore readers. The results was a list of more than 200 screen industry professionals, which were then whittled down to a list of 50.

 

AFTRS graduates to feature in Encore's Power 50 list include:

 

 

Rachel Perkins (Producing, 1996) - writer/director who alongside her Blackfella films partner Darren Dale produced the award-winning First Australians series for SBS. Her latest feature Bran Nue Dae is the highest grossing film of 2010 so far.

 

Warwick Thornton (Cinematography, 1996) - writer/director/cinematographer of the Camera d'Or winning Samson & Delilah, who is now working on Art and Soul, a 3-hour documentary series with Indigenous art curator Hetti Perkins.

 

Robert Connolly (Producing, 1995) - director/producer/writer of one of 2009's most important films Balibo. Robert also authored a highly debated white paper about a new methodology for feature film production in Australia.

 

Peter Andrikidis (Directing, 1981) - one of Australia's most acclaimed TV drama directors with more than 30-years experience, and credits including G.P., Wildside, Grass Roots, East West 101 and Underbelly. Peter made his feature-film debut this year with The Kings of Mykonos: Wog Boy 2, with plans underway for his second feature the ANZAC-themed Simpson.

 

Andrew Lesnie (Cinematography, 1979) - Academy Award winning cinematographer for his work on The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and long-time Peter Jackson collaborator. Andrew Lesnie also shot Rachel Perkins' colourful Bran Nue Dae.

 

Alex Proyas (Cinematography, 1983) - one of Australia's most successful filmmakers working in Hollywood with credits including Knowing, The Crow, I Robot and Dark City. The $100 million epic Dracula Year Zero is the next project for Proyas.

 

Jules O'Loughlin (Cinematography, 2004) - well-respected for his work on Kokoda, September and Lucky Country Jules O'Loughlin is currently in charge of Australia's first big scale stereoscopic 3D film, the U$30m Sanctum, executive-produced by James Cameron.
