In the spirit of independence AFTRS self-publishes LUMINA - the
Australian Journal of Screen Arts and Business - and after just six
issues LUMINA has picked up a Regional SILVER international IPPY
Award (Independent Publisher Book Awards).
Launched in 1996, the IPPY's were designed to bring increased
recognition to the deserving 'but often unsung' titles published by
independent authors and publishers. The Awards recognise 12
Outstanding Books of the Year in categories such as 'Most
Inspirational to Youth' and 'Most Likely To Save the Planet' as
well as regional awards that celebrate books published with a
regional focus for 'Best Fiction' and 'Best Non-Fiction Book' in
eight U.S. regions, two Canadian regions and Australia/New
Zealand.
This years medalists were chosen from 3,907 total entries: 3,059
in the national categories and 848 in the regional categories. The
Australia/New Zealand regional category attracted 60 entries in its
first year and LUMINA, which is a relatively newcomer on the
literary scene, picked up the SILVER MEDAL for the Australia/New
Zealand - Best Regional Non-Fiction category.
IPPY tells us "the judges found excellence in every category, and
we proclaim the quality, creativity, and originality of independent
publishing to be better than ever" and the LUMINA team are
delighted.
