Learn the art of writing a short film
Working with an experienced screen writer, learn the art of screenwriting through writing a short film – from initial conception through to the development of your story. This is an intensive and rewarding course if you’re interested in creative writing, writing for the screen or if you are developing screen content as part of your HSC studies. Your draft short film script will be read at the end of a course, with valuable feedback from your tutor.
This course is delivered 100% online, so you can participate in it from the comfort of your own home.
We acknowledge that it’s hard to sit still in front of a computer in a learning environment for 8 hours a day, so we’ll be “chunking the sessions” into shorter Zoom video sessions, and then students can go offline, get a drink/have a stretch and do some specific viewing and writing in their own time. Then they will resume the Zoom video session and share their work.
Get the basics of structure and plot, and how to write visually.
Learn about the different types of short films, and where to find ideas and inspiration.
Discuss “what is story?” and how does it work in short form?
Is the Writing a Short Film: Grades 9-12 right for you?

Students who are 16 years and over may also consider AFTRS’ Intro to Screenwriting course, which has less focus on the short film format, but does not include individual feedback on writing work.
