Directing Intensive

Develop your craft as a director in storytelling, script analysis and working with actors in this five-day intensive taught by an experienced industry director. You’ll develop skills in casting, rehearsal techniques, breaking down a script and scene blocking. This course focuses on drama directing and the skills you’ll learn are relevant to all screen content.

Gain a deeper understanding of the role of Director and what is required of a director in pre-production, production and post-production

How to communicate your ideas to professional actors in a clear and practical way and understanding of the possibilities of the rehearsal process

Developing your directorial voice and how to communicate it effectively

Is the Directing Intensive right for you?

If you need to develop your craft skills as a Director, this course will be valuable. It is NOT suitable for someone who has no filmmaking experience. Ideally you would have directed a short film, web series, TVC or Similar and wish to expand your skills in the areas of working with actors and script analysis.

If you have not studied directing previously, it may be useful to consider the Intro to Directing course first.

What you will need

This is an intensive five-day course, where you will be expected to actively participate in practical exercises with your classmates. You should have filmmaking experience – including on-set experience – and preferably some directing experience as mentioned above.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This course is for students aged 18+ only.

If a student wishes to withdraw from a course, they may do so up to 15 days before the course commences and get a full refund. Cancellations 14 days or less before course commencement will incur a penalty.

AFTRS reserves the right to cancel any course for any reason at any time. In the event of a course being cancelled by AFTRS prior to commencement a 100% refund or credit note of the course fees paid will be provided.

Should AFTRS need to cancel a course after commencement, but before its completion, reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule. If rescheduling is not feasible, it is at AFTRS sole discretion to issue either full or partial credit notes depending on the circumstances.

AFTRS will make every effort to ensure the scheduled run of any course.

If you are planning to travel to attend a course, please confirm with AFTRS that the course is confirmed before you make your travel bookings. This decision is dependent on course enrolments meeting minimum numbers. AFTRS is not liable for any travel or accommodation costs incurred through course cancellation at any time for any reason.
