Become a Production Accountant

In this course you will learn the knowledge and skills to prepare you for a career as a Production Accountant  – a role much in demand in the screen industry. You will become familiar with and learn how to apply accounting technologies and workflows while developing a strong understanding of the stages of productions and their financial reporting obligations and requirements. Led by industry experts from Entertainment Partners powered by Moneypenny you’ll gain specialised skills to work as an assistant production accountant with the aim to fast track to a career to production accounting, or be immediately able to be a production accountant on a low budget production.

Gain an understanding of the financial requirements and reconciliation at each stage of production and an understanding of compliance requirements

Skill up in payroll, accounts payable, petty cash, cost reporting and funding reporting as it relates to screen production

Get valuable hands-on experience through practical exercises with industry standard production accounting software

Is Production Accountant Intensive right for you?

This course is best suited to people with an accounting or bookkeeping background. You’ll need to already understand double entry bookkeeping and accounting to trial balance. Prior use of standard accounting packages like Xero or MYOB will be an advantage. Good communication skills are also vital for a good Production Accountant as you will be constantly dealing with a variety of people from key creatives to funding agencies.

If you are someone with the above skills but are keen to work in a more creative field, this is the perfect course for you to take your career in a new direction, where there is a lot of demand.

As well as a thorough understanding of the role of the production accountant for a project, you’ll gain skills and knowledge complimentary to production management, producing and/or screen business.

What you will need

You will need to bring a laptop, with Excel if you have one, for use during the course. All other needed course materials will be supplied, along with access to any specific production accounting software needed for exercises. If you do not have a laptop please let us know at shortcourses@aftrs.edu.au as soon as possible so we can arrange for access to one for you during the course.

If a student wishes to withdraw from a course, they may do so up to 15 days before the course commences and get a full refund. Cancellations 14 days or less before course commencement will incur a penalty.

AFTRS reserves the right to cancel any course for any reason at any time. In the event of a course being cancelled by AFTRS prior to commencement a 100% refund or credit note of the course fees paid will be provided.

Should AFTRS need to cancel a course after commencement, but before its completion, reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule. If rescheduling is not feasible, it is at AFTRS sole discretion to issue either full or partial credit notes depending on the circumstances.

AFTRS will make every effort to ensure the scheduled run of any course.
