Bethany Bruce

A/g Discipline Lead, Producing

Beth is an independent producer and co-founder of the production company Staple Fiction and works across drama and documentaries. She is passionate about talent and story development and sharing knowledge on the craft of producing. Previous work highlights include the ABC Australia commissioned short documentaries The Art of Collecting (2021), Video Becomes Us (2018) and The Glass Bedroom (2017) with director Kate Blackmore. She was co-producer on Selina Miles’ debut feature documentary Martha: A Picture Story which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019. Beth’s short drama credits include the AACTA Social Shorts nominated Wolf (2016, Screen NSW Emerging Filmmaker Fund), Broken Line North (2019, Lexus Fellowship Sydney Film Festival), The Butter Scene (2021, Sydney Film Festival) and Tinseltown (2016, MIFF). She was also executive producer on the TIFF short film selection Birdie (2018) directed by Shelly Lauman, which Searchlight Pictures acquired.

Beth was mentored by acclaimed producers Bridget Ikin and John Maynard at Felix Media from 2014 to 2016, as part of a Screen Australia Enterprise People grant, in the role of creative producer. During that time, she shadowed the producers in production on the BAFTA-nominated feature documentary Sherpa (2016, TIFF, Telluride, SFF) and the feature drama The Rehearsal (2016, TIFF, NYFF). She holds First Class Honours in Media Arts and Production from the University of Technology, Sydney.
