Peter Tonagh

Peter Tonagh is the Chief Executive Officer of Australian Visa Processing Pty Limited (AVP).

Peter is also the Non-Executive Chairman of Bus Stop Films, a charitable organization supporting inclusion in the film and television industry; a member of the Council of the Australian Film Television and Radio School; and Non-Executive Board Member of Volt Bank – Australia’s first independent digital bank to be granted a full banking licence. Peter also jointly lead the National Broadcaster Efficiency Review of the ABC and SBS on behalf of the Minister for Communications and the Arts.

Prior to joining AVP, Peter filled various senior executive roles within the News Corp Australia group over a fourteen year period. Most recently he was the Chief Executive Officer of Foxtel Management Pty Limited, a role he commenced in March 2016 following three years as Chief Operating Officer and then Chief Executive Officer of News Corp Australia. Prior to that, he held dual roles as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Foxtel for nine years where he was responsible for the overall strategy of the business, including the acquisition and integration of Austar, content and channel negotiations, funding and the core operations of the business. During this period he oversaw a significant increase in Foxtel’s expenditure on original local productions, an area that he is passionate about.

During his tenure at News Corp, Peter was a non-Executive Director of REA Group and also filled the role of interim Chief Executive Officer leading the business as the REA Board completed its search and appointment of its permanent CEO. He was also the Chairman of Multi-Channel Network, Foxtel’s advertising arm.

Before joining the News Corp group, Peter spent fifteen years with The Boston Consulting Group, working across Australia and New Zealand and throughout Asia, the last five of which were as Partner.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales and a Masters of Business Administration from INSEAD, Europe’s leading business school, where he graduated on the Dean’s Merit List.
