Places in this course are competitive and are based on merit selection. We do not assess exam scores or ATAR rankings.
1. Prior Educational Criteria
Admission into the course is based on meeting one of the following educational criteria:
(a) Applicants with Recent Secondary Education (within the past two years)
All applicants in this category must be due to complete their Higher School Certificate (or equivalent) by the start of the program.
Applicants are required to provide a certified copy of one of the following:
• For applicants currently enrolled in high school: proof of enrolment in a senior secondary qualification you are due to complete this year (Higher School Certificate, International Baccalaureate, or equivalent).
• For applicants who have completed secondary school: a copy of your Higher School Certificate, International Baccalaureate, or, if applicable, tertiary or vocational qualification.
(b) Applicants with Vocational Educational and Training (VET) Study
If you have a VET certificate (excluding trade certificates), Diploma or Advanced Diploma level qualification that is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), it may be used as a basis of entry to this course at AFTRS.
Applicants with VET study may have other qualifications such as a Year 10 or Year 12 secondary school certificate.
(c) Applicants with Higher Educational Study
Applicants with higher education are those who have completed or started a higher education course, such as a university degree. This includes applicants who are currently studying a higher education course at another education provider and want to transfer to AFTRS. It also includes applicants who have completed past higher education study with AFTRS, a university or non-university higher education provider.
Applicants with higher education also include students who have completed a bridging or enabling course delivered by, or on behalf of, a higher education provider.
(d) Applicants with Work and Life Experience
Applicants who do not have a Higher School Certificate (or equivalent) or who completed their secondary education more than two years ago and have not undertaken or completed vocational education training (VET) or higher education study since then can apply for admission using work and life experience.
“Experience” could include a combination of factors that demonstrate readiness for higher education. This includes mature-age entry, professional experience, community involvement or work experience.

3. Highest Educational Qualifications
You must provide a certified copy of your highest education level.
4. Proof of Citizenship/Residency
Ensure you submit a certified copy of your birth certificate or passport.
