Alumni Program

AFTRS alumni are a dynamic community of practitioners, advocates and supporters who are committed to, and invested in, the future of Australian stories. Now numbering well over 4200, they are a diverse group spread across all areas of the industry, and around the world. You can find all alumni listed here. You can also read about some of our alumni via the Alumni Showcase.

Christine Kirkwood recently returned to AFTRS as our new Alumni Program Manager and is thrilled to bring the Alumni Program back to life. You’ll hear from her a lot on AFTRS’ socials (see below), but you can also email alumni@aftrs.edu.au to say hi and share your news.

We’ve recently started to re-connect with as many alumni as possible, and we’re always working on updating our alumni database. If you are an AFTRS alumni and you haven’t heard from us in a while, chances are we don’t have your current contact details. We would love to hear from you so we can invite you to our events and future reunions. Please email us at alumni@aftrs.edu.au and keep us updated on your news.

You should soon begin to receive our new monthly Alumni Newsletter filled with news, events, opportunities and offers, so there couldn’t be a better time to drop us a line to ensure your details are up to date.

Another great way to stay connected is via our official alumni groups on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Part of our revitalised Alumni Program is an ongoing series of reunion events. If you are an AFTRS alumni, look out for your invitation to the next five, 10, 20, 30 or 40-year reunion for your class. Stay tuned for the next all-school reunion, celebrating AFTRS 50ᵗʰ Anniversary in 2023.

Alumni are invited to submit expressions of interest for casual or guest lecturing to share their experience and skills with current students. If you are an industry practitioner interested in teaching our award courses, short courses, corporate training and industry certificates, please email your expression of interest to alumni@aftrs.edu.au.

Our alumni, their stories and their successes are showcased on this website and our social media channels. You can find it all by searching #AFTRSAlumni on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. Please don’t be shy, get in touch, or post using the hashtag and tell us about your wins.

We are also keen to connect graduates for employment opportunities and collaboration. Again, we encourage you to get posting on our social channels or email us to find out more.

AFTRS alumni (graduates of our awards courses) are entitled to a 30% discount off all Short Courses and Industry Certificates. Contact shortcourses@aftrs.edu.au to get your alumni promo code.

To support the creative initiatives and endeavours of our alumni we offer the use of our facilities, subject to availability and certain criteria. Over the years we’ve hosted writer’s rooms, meetings, cast-and-crew and tech check screenings. Learn more about Industry Use here.

AFTRS’ Charlie’s Grant is an annual virtual residency available to four AFTRS alumni, providing exceptional career development opportunities. Facilitated by Australians In Film, you can read more about this opportunity here.
