Alumni Program

AFTRS alumni are a dynamic community of practitioners, advocates and supporters who are committed to, and invested in, the future of Australian stories. Now numbering well over 4200, they are a diverse group spread across all areas of the industry, working all over the world. You can find all alumni listed in our alumni register. You can keep up with the latest alumni news here and read about some of our alumni in the Alumni Showcase.

Christine Kirkwood is AFTRS’ Alumni Program Manager. You can connect with her in the alumni groups on Facebook and LinkedIn and reach her via email at alumni@aftrs.edu.au to share your news.

We are working hard to reconnect with as many of our alumni as possible. If you’re an AFTRS graduate and you haven’t heard from us in a while, chances are we don’t have your current contact details. We would love to be able to invite you to our events and future reunions, so please email us at alumni@aftrs.edu.au with your current contact details and keep us updated on your latest projects, awards and career milestones.

Another great way to stay connected is via our official alumni groups on LinkedIn and Facebook.

And, keep an eye out for our monthly alumni newsletter, filled with news, events, opportunities, offers and lots more.

Part of our revitalised alumni program is an ongoing series of reunion events. If you are an AFTRS alumnus, look out for your invitation to the next five, 10, 20, 30 or 40-year reunion for your class. And you can look forward to the biggest reunion of all, AFTRS’ 50ᵗʰ Anniversary in 2023.

AFTRS alumni are invited to submit expressions of interest for casual or guest lecturing to share their experience and skills with current students. If you are an industry practitioner interested in teaching our award courses, short courses, corporate training and industry certificates, please email your expression of interest to alumni@aftrs.edu.au.

Our alumni, their stories and their successes are showcased on this website and our social media channels. You can find it all by searching #AFTRSAlumni on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn – and remember to use the hashtag and tag @aftrs when posting your own news.

We are also keen to connect graduates for employment opportunities and collaboration. Email us to find out more.

AFTRS alumni (graduates of our degree courses) are entitled to a 30% discount on all Short Courses and Industry Certificates. Contact shortcourses@aftrs.edu.au to get your alumni promo code.

To support the creative initiatives and endeavours of our alumni we offer the use of our facilities, subject to availability and certain criteria. Over the years we’ve hosted writer’s rooms, meetings, cast-and-crew and tech check screenings. Learn more about Industry Use here.

AFTRS’ Charlie’s Grant is an annual virtual residency available to four AFTRS alumni, providing exceptional career development opportunities. Facilitated by Australians In Film, you can read more about this opportunity here.
