Master of Arts (Film & Television) – Design, 2000
Costume designer Justine Seymour started in the art department on major Hollywood films shooting in Australia, such as Mission Impossible II, Moulin Rouge, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Son of the Mask.
Justine’s feature credits as a costume designer, in the years since, include The Waiting City, directed by fellow alumna Claire McCarthy, as well as The Sessions, Backtrack and Destination Wedding, starring Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves.
Justine has also designed several television shows. They include Tig Notaro’s One Mississippi, Netflix’s Messiah and the hit miniseries Unorthodox, for which she was nominated for an Emmy and won the German TV Award for Best Costume Designer in 2020. Justine also served as the costume designer on Apple’s series adaptation of The Mosquito Coast for director Rupert Wyatt.
AFTRS created a safe learning environment that resembled the world of film that I was fast heading towards. We had the best equipment and very supportive staff. I was stretched in every direction and I grew with this amazing gift of an education.
Having been part of a hugely successful show like Netflix’s Unorthodox has been such a wonderful acknowledgment of my career and hard work. I won the German Academy Award and the German Emmy and was nominated for the Emmy in the States. That is my major highlight. I am grateful and happy.
