AFTRS Films Selected for Flickerfest 2020

The work of AFTRS alumni will be on show at the 2020 Flickerfest International Short Film Festival with several AFTRS graduate shorts selected to screen at the event.

Leading the way is My First Panic by 2018 Master of Arts Screen graduate Michaela Holmes, which will have its world premiere. This short, high-intensity narrative drama centres around Ruby, an anxious young woman experiencing her first panic attack after a night of hedonistic partying.

Continuing their festival run with NSW premieres are All Good Things by Simon Croker (Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production, 2018), Sweet Tooth by Shannon Ashlyn (Master of Arts Screen, 2018) and The Granny Flat by Rachel Mackey (Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production, 2018).

Chicken, a film by Talent Camp participant Alana Hicks will also be screening at the festival. After participating in Talent Camp NSW in 2017 and National in 2018, Alana received $24,000 in funding from AFTRS and Screen NSW and used it to complete the project.

Since its CinefestOz premiere earlier this year, MA graduate film Sweet Tooth, written and directed by Shannon Ashlyn (Master of Arts Screen, 2018; Diploma in Grading, 2017) has welcomed plenty of praise, winning the CAPA Best Film Award for Fiction as part of the Annual Cilect Prize Competition as well as the Nicholas Baudin Short Film Award at Cinema des Antipodes in Saint Tropez.

All Good Things, directed and written by Simon Croker (Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production, 2018; Foundation Diploma, 2014) had its world premiere at Reeling Film Festival in Chicago in September and has since screened at Brisbane International Film Festival.

Animator on the rise, Rachel Mackey (Bachelor of Arts Screen, 2018) has had a big year with her short The Granny Flat screening in competition at Cinema Des Antipodes in Saint-Tropez, Nashville Film Festival and Revelation Film Festival in Perth.
