On the Air: AFTRS Radio Students Broadcasting Live on iHeart Radio

AFTRS Graduate Diploma of Radio students have launched their second pop-up station of the year.

2RS – The Ultimate 80s to Now station streams online and on iHeartRadio nationally.

2RS stands for Regional Simulation. The station is live for two weeks and mirrors successful regional formats, and is focused on three regions: Wollongong, Muswellbrook and Nowra.

Built and produced by the class of 2019, students experience what it’s like to broadcast to a regional area from studios located outside the region.

Prior to designing the station, students went on a road trip and spent two days with Grant Broadcasters, in the three markets. They learnt about operations and content for regional audiences.

2RS ‘Your Local Sound’ targets the 40-55 demographic and is a contemporary mix of established artists with new music and local information.

AFTRS Head of Radio Fyona Smith said “2RS provides students with a deeper understanding of regional commercial radio, the importance of localism and feedback from industry”.

iHeartRadio Content Director Brett ‘Nozz’ Nossiter said “iHeartRadio is thrilled to continue its support of AFTRS as their streaming partner, helping to develop the broadcasting talent for a digital future.”
