SCCI x AFTRS 2020 Competition-Winning Films Premiere, Winners for 2021 Announced

SCCI/AFTRS pitch competition-winning films by AFTRS Master of Arts Screen and Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production Students have made their debut at a special screening event at the Sherman Centre for Culture and Ideas (SCCI).

Sophia O’Rourke’s (current Master of Arts Screen student) Dance Russe, Sam Martin’s (Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production, 2019) A Style for Every Story and Ramon Samson’s  (Master of Arts Screen, 2019; Bachelor of Arts (Screen), 2017; Foundation Diploma, 2014) Door Stories screened to an audience of AFTRS students, graduates and staff, along with industry guests, appearing alongside previous years’ winners – all works commissioned as part of the SCCI and AFTRS partnership.

Following the screening, acclaimed documentary filmmaker Rod Freedman partook in a Q&A where he discussed the challenges and triumphs from each of the 2020 films, and the next round of projects to be commissioned was announced.

Earlier this year, students were invited to submit pitches for the creation of 5-minute films on the topic “Who Are We Now”, with a focus on either fashion or architecture. In addition to receiving funding, the selected students will have access to available AFTRS equipment and facilities and have the chance for their work to appear in London as part of the SCCI Fashion and Architecture September 2021 London hubs.
