Winners Announced for the 2021 Australian Podcasting Awards

The achievements of audio storytellers from across the nation have been honoured at the Australian Podcasting Awards, an annual celebration of the quality and breadth of Australian podcast content. Winners in 29 categories have been announced and among those recognised were AFTRS alumni.

Brianna Peterson’s (Graduate Diploma in Radio Broadcasting, 2012) At Home with Brie was awarded Best Family Podcast and earned Silver in the Best Lockdown Podcast category. Telling the stories of kids from across Australia, At Home With Brie was highly commended by the judges, who called it “the perfect companion for lockdown and beyond”. Brianna Peterson also won Bronze in Best Business Podcast, recognising her work as producer and sound designer on Makers x Traders Audio Trail.

Unravel: Juanita by AFTRS alum Keiran McGee (Master of Arts Screen: Business and Leadership, 2019) was also recognised, receiving Silver in the Best True Crime Podcast category. The seven-episode series tackles one of Australia’s most chilling and unsolved true crime stories.

The 2021 Australian Podcasting Awards in-person were held at an in-person ceremony in Sydney hosted by comedic duo Susie Youssef and Harley Breen. Each year, entries come from independent podcasters, broadcasters, the business community, students, and non-profit organisations, and winners are chosen by over sixty international and Australian judges working in the sector.  For 2021, over 90 judges listened to nearly 1,000 submissions to find these winners, and over 40,000 Australians voted in this year’s Listeners’ Choice poll, supported by LiSTNR.

Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees. See the full list here.
