Master of Arts Screen film Not Yet is now streaming on YouTube’s popular channel Omeleto, a digital platform dedicated to publishing and promoting award-winning short films, dramas, comedies, science fiction and documentaries. Omeleto is celebrated for helping launch the careers of emerging independent filmmakers.
Directed by Holly Fraser, written by Sami Swilks and produced by Caleb Irwin, the film will reach an audience of nearly 4 million viewers through a curated platform that has previously featured Oscar-nominated and acclaimed short films, making Omeleto a recognised hub for outstanding short-form storytelling and a showcase for early works by celebrated directors.
Holly said: “I have always been a huge fan of Omeleto, so when we heard they had selected Not Yet for their channel, I was stunned. After a wonderful festival run and several awards, our team is thrilled that Not Yet will have its online premiere on Omeleto.”
The film had its world premiere at Flickerfest International Short Film Festival in Sydney, followed by selections at film festivals across Australia, where it went on to win four awards, including Best Narrative Short at the ORION International Film Festival, the Avid Award for Best Editing in an Australian Short Film awarded to editor Samuel Inglis at Flickerfest, and Best Screenplay and Best Actress at the Canberra Short Film Festival.
A 14-minute psychological drama about grief, resentment and unending love, the film brings to screen the story of sisters Emily and Nina as they grit their teeth through their mother Josephine’s extravagant engagement party.
Holly said Not Yet was about “dismantling the walls we build to protect ourselves from pain”.
“I’ve always had deep anxiety about losing loved ones,” she said. “One morning, after a string of missed calls, I knew something terrible had happened. I spent an hour avoiding my phone, telling myself that if I didn’t answer, the news couldn’t be real. This experience inspired Emily’s retreat into a false reality, where denial offers protection but ultimately causes harm.
“I’m incredibly grateful to our [Master of Arts Screen] crew for bringing this story to life, and to our exceptional cast, led by Sara West, Heidi May and Zoe Carides.”
Holly said Not Yet “is for anyone who has ever felt not yet ready to let go”.
Not Yet joins a slate of AFTRS films streaming online, including Mud Crab (Vimeo Staff Pick, YouTube Short of the Week, YouTube Directors Notes), MumLife (YouTube Short of the Week) and Sushi Noh (Vimeo Staff Pick, YouTube Short of the Week), as well as annual documentary selections streaming on SBS On Demand and DocPlay, alongside the ABC iview online program AFTRS Showcase.
