Camera & Sound Fundamentals

Led by experienced camera operator and director-producer you will be introduced to techniques and practical skills that will enable you to produce high quality images and sound for documentary and drama with an eye to great storytelling – the goal of all good filmmaking. Starting with efficiently building and setting-up camera and tripod systems from a deconstructed kit, to correctly link cameras and audio equipment, as well as effective proper placement and use of radio and booms mics on subject, all the fundamentals are covered. Building on this you will be encouraged to start thinking about the frame and coverage to tell a story.

Covers recording optimum picture and achieving good sound, focusing on the basics

Learn about scene coverage and how to tell a story with a compelling series of shots

Be introduced to the practical considerations of ‘freestyle’ filmmaking and the demands of shooting with a one or two person crews, a distinctly different form of filmmaking to larger production teams and projects

This course is for students aged 18+ only.

If a student wishes to withdraw from a course, they may do so up to 15 days before the course commences and get a full refund. Cancellations 14 days or less before course commencement will incur a penalty.

AFTRS reserves the right to cancel any course for any reason at any time. In the event of a course being cancelled by AFTRS prior to commencement a 100% refund or credit note of the course fees paid will be provided.

Should AFTRS need to cancel a course after commencement, but before its completion, reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule. If rescheduling is not feasible, it is at AFTRS’ sole discretion to issue either full or partial credit notes depending on the circumstances.
