AFTRS Alumni Recognised at the Australian Screen Sound Guild Awards

AFTRS alumni have been honoured among Australia’s top screen sound talent, securing awards across nine categories at the 2019 Australian Screen Sound Guild Awards.

Alumni were nominated in 10 of the 12 categories at the ceremony, which took place at Jones Bay Wharf on 23 November. Stephen Murphy, AFTRS Head of Sound and ASSG President, spoke at the event.

Taking the top award of the evening, Soundtrack of the Year was The Nightingale, which features the work of sound effects editor Tara Webb (Graduate Diploma in Sound, 2011) and additional ADR editor Belinda Trimboli (Master of Arts: Film, Television and Digital Media Sound Design, 2007).

The Andrew Plain Award for Best Film Sound Editing went to I Am Mother, which features the work of additional sound effects editor Lachlan Harris (Graduate Diploma in Sound, 2012).

Best Sound for a Children’s Program was awarded to the team behind Beat Bugs, which includes re-recording mixer Thom Kellar, sound designer Andrew Miller, sound designer Jared Dwyer and foley artist Andrew Simmons – who also won Best Sound for a Live-Action Short Film for his work on The Rolling Ground.

Alumni also won in categories including Best Sound for Documentary, Best Sound for Interactive Media, Best Sound for a Drama or Comedy (Over 30 minutes), Best Sound for a Drama or Comedy, and Best Sound for Lifestyle, Reality or Factual Entertainment.
