AFTRS is supporting the identified skills gap in location management through 10 fully-subsidised places in the Australian Location Management Guild’s (ALMG) upcoming online course Scouting Intensive 101.

ALMG’s pilot course Scouting Intensive 101 is a great way to gain insight into the profession of Location Management, or add a skill that will improve the production value and pre-production of your creative projects. Learn tools of the trade, photography techniques, script breakdowns, anchor vs ancillary locations, data management and more. Delivered entirely online over two Saturdays – 5 and 12 September – with some homework between sessions. You can find all the course details here.

How to apply

Applications are open to those with a demonstrated commitment to working in the screen and broadcast industry in a crew role, especially aspiring or emerging location department crew. For example, you may have been making your own content, have some entry-level work in screen production, previously completed a screen and media course, or have transferrable skills from another industry such as admin, office management, construction or transportation.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • An Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Availability to attend all course sessions and complete any course homework

Applications close 23 August. All applications will be assessed by an AFTRS assessment team to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria, and successful candidates will be notified by email by 1 September 2026.

Please note your contact details will be shared with the ALMG to facilitate enrolment into and delivery of the course run.
