AFTRS Radio students have only just completed their formal studies, but already they’re making quite an impression on the industry.

In demand for their skills, a large number of students from both the Graduate Diploma in Radio and the Advanced Diploma in Radio Essentials have gained employment in a range of roles at stations around the country.

From the Graduate Diploma cohort Alex Dickson is about to take up the position of Content Assistant at KIIS in Melbourne; Jo Lodge has secured Workday Afternoons and Music Director at Power 94.9 in Nowra. She’s joining Grace Garde, who is already at Power 94.9 presenting Drive and developing digital content for the station. Sean Brown is working in a casual role at KIIS in Sydney, and Liam Sommerville has just secured an Audio Producer role at Power FM in Bega. Mariam Belle, the recipient of the 2017 AFTRS/Southern Cross Austereo Internship Award, is soon to take up six-weeks of full-time paid work experience at HIT 103.1 in Townsville.

Meanwhile, Advanced Diploma student Oliver Leuver has started as a Junior Copywriter at Macquarie Media; Joel Hansen is working with RCS sound software; and James ‘Monte’ Irvine has just stepped into the Breakfast Announcer chair at 2NZ in Inverell.

Head of Radio at AFTRS, Fyona Smith, said “It is such an exciting time of the year when we hear back from students about their employment success. It’s great that industry is giving them the opportunity to build on the many skills they’ve gained through these courses.
