Alumni Works Bound for Revelation Film Festival

Revelation Perth International Film Festival’s virtual edition, COUCHED, which starts today and runs until 19 July, includes a great lineup of features, documentaries and shorts by AFTRS students and alumni. The films are available to view on streaming platform REVonDEMAND.

Bloodshot Heart, a feature by emerging director and alumnus Parish Malfitano (Bachelor of Arts (Screen), 2017; Foundation Diploma, 2014) is having its world premiere, while the festival will look back at one of Rachel Perkins’ (Specialist Extension Course Certificate Producing, 1995) early works, 2001 musical One Night The Moon, shot by AFTRS’ Head of Cinematography/alumnus, Kim Batterham (Bachelor of Arts (Film & Television), 1978) and edited by Karen Johnson (Specialist Extension Course Certificate Editing, 1995).

The Familiars, an AFTRS student production by alumna Millie Malcolm (Graduate Certificate Screen: Directing, 2018) will screen as part of the ‘Blood & Mayhem’ genre showcase. The short was made with a team of fellow AFTRS alumni that includes screenwriter Octavia B. Martin (Graduate Certificate Screen: Screenwriting, 2018; Advanced Diploma in Script Editing and Development, 2017; Advanced Diploma in Screenwriting: Feature Film, 2016),  producer Alexis Talbot-Smith (Master of Arts Screen, 2019), cinematographer Calum Ridell (Master of Arts Screen, 2019), editor Xanthe Dobbie (Master of Arts Screen, 2019), composer Jorde Heys (Master of Arts Screen, 2019) and costume designer Laura McGenniss (Foundation Diploma, 2011).

Also selected to screen are feature documentaries No Time for Quiet, co-directed/produced by Samantha Dinning (Graduate Certificate in Documentary, 2011), and Morgana, edited by Julie-Ann De Ruvo (Master of Arts (Film & Television) Editing, 2001).

After recent appearances at this years St Kilda Film Festival, shorts Audio Guide, produced by Kim Vatiekus (Bachelor of Arts (Film and Television) Camera, 1988), Watch Out For Australians!! directed by Steven Arriagada (Graduate Certificate: Directing, 2010) and Broken Line North which showcases the work of several alumni, all feature in this year’s Australian Shorts Film Showcase, run over two sessions.

The short documentary showcase ‘Real World Unfolding’ will feature Charby Ibrahim’s Bright Lights – The Perils of the Pokies, executive produced by Jennifer Peedom (Master of Screen Arts and Business, 2017) and Joshua Belinfante’s The World’s Best Film with original composition by David Bruggeman (Graduate Diploma in Screen Music, 2014) and additional camera Joshua Marks (Graduate Diploma in Documentary, 2011).
