Gemma Brown

Industry Manager (students)

Gemma Brown is the Industry Manager at AFTRS, playing a key role in driving strategic partnerships between the screen industry and emerging talent. Deeply passionate about early careers, Gemma oversees the AFTRS Graduate Program and BA Industry Placement elective, creating pathways that connect students and graduates with meaningful professional opportunities. She’s a strong believer in the value of real-world experience and is driven by a commitment to helping emerging creatives take their first confident steps into the industry. 

Before joining AFTRS, Gemma worked in casting for over a decade across the film and television industry, contributing to a wide range of projects—from hundreds of TV commercials to short films, docudramas, reality TV, scripted series, feature films, and major blockbusters. Selected credits include Oscar-nominated Lion (2016), Top of the Lake: China Girl (2017), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Doctor Doctor (2018), Harrow (2018), Homecoming Queens (2018), Mr Inbetween (2018–2019), The Unlisted (2019), The Other Guy (2019), Top End Wedding (2019), Hearts and Bones (2019), Lambs of God (2019), Dirt Music (2019), and Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022). She is a CGA Award winner and has received multiple nominations for her work, recognised for her ability to discover and champion new talent. 

Gemma has had the privilege of working alongside some of the country’s most respected directors and producers, gaining a deep understanding of the screen industry and how it operates across all levels. She brings this insight and industry expertise to her role at AFTRS, where she remains committed to building bridges between education and employment – with a genuine enthusiasm for helping the next generation thrive.
