Looking for an entry-level job in production - and don't want to be completely clueless? This two-day introductory course is designed for people with limited knowledge of television production who are interested in making a career the industry.
The Production Office 101 will introduce you to:
• what are the different types of TV shows?
• how are TV shows bought, sold and made?
• who are all those people in a production office and what do they do?
• what are all those documents and why are they important?
• who does what on set and how does it all come together?
• what skills do you need to join the production team?
The course will include plenty of discussion, practical exercises and a site visit.
This is a great follow-on course from our An Introduction to Television course, and a vital course to do before you tackle one of our Production Management courses.
About the Course Lecturer
Genevieve Ginty has a long career in arts media and entertainment. Starting out as an assistant, within a few months she was co-ordinating on short films and TVC's for a number of large production companies including Baby Lemonade and Singleton’s Ignite.
In 2001, Genevieve joined the crew of the first series of Big Brother as production coordinator and continued in the following year to production manage the additional and live shows, such as evictions, nominations and uncut on the second series. In 2003 she managed the entire production.
Genevieve has worked almost exclusively for Southern Star since those first years on Big Brother and has managed many and varied projects including the National Geographic documentary series Next Wave, Celebrity Big Brother, Strictly Dancing and Friday Night Games.
Whilst operating as a freelancer, she managed Queer Eye for the Straight Guy for the Freehand Group and Here comes the Neighbourhood for Pria Viswalingham at SBS. Genevieve has also produced an award-winning short film Free directed by Jeremy Cumpston. Genevieve has more recently worked as Group Production Manager at Southern Star where she was primarily involved with the development and management of all non-drama and entertainment programs. Genevieve left Southern Star in 2009 and now works as an independent freelance consultant, specialising in production development and budgeting.
