Nell Greenwood

Course Leader, Masters

Nell Greenwood is a screenwriter and development consultant with twenty years of international film and television experience. Recent credits include story writer on a two part mini series, False Witness that won the AFI for best miniseries and co-writer and director on Pride and Joy, a television film that was nominated for Best TV Film at the 46th Monte Carlo TV Film Festival.

Nell currently has television series in development with Channel Nine and the ABC.

Over ten years as a development executive, she has worked for Hallmark Entertainment, was head of development at the Irish Film Board, actor-based production company Natural Nylon Entertainment and for Element Films in Dublin.

Sept 2007 - SCRIPT EDITOR / ASSSESSOR - script editing and assessing projects for Hopscotch, Helen Bowden, NSW FTO and Screen Queensland.

January 2007 - CO-STORY FALSE WITNESS - a two part action thriller, commissioned by Screentime for Foxtel (UKTV), was directed by Peter Andrikidis and starred Dougray Scott and Claire Forlani. It won AFI for Best Miniseries.

March 2006 - CO-WRITER / PRODUCER / DIRECTOR - PRIDE & JOY This low-budget kitchen sink drama screened to critical acclaim on Irish broadcaster RTE and received a record breaking 27% audience share for a one off TV film. It was nominated in the Best TV Film category at the 46th Monte Carlo TV festival.

Oct '04 - CO-PRODUCER / SCRIPT EDITOR - KING'S INNS - an eight x one hour legal series commissioned by Irish broadcaster RTE.

Aug '03 - CO-WRITER / DIRECTOR - THE ACCOUNT - A 14 minute short bought by Irish broadcaster RTE and shown at the Cork, Dublin, Foyle and Galway film festivals.

June '03 - LECTURER, SCREENWRITING MA, HUSTON SCHOOL OF FILM AND DIGITAL MEDIA, GALWAY - Nell taught the narrative structure component of this MA degree, combining lectures with group discussion and workshops.

April '01 - WRITER - KISSING THROUGH A PANE OF GLASS

Nell was commissioned to write a treatment for shorts company Poisson Rouge Productions for a feature based on a novel of the same name.

Jan '01 - WRITER / DIRECTOR / PRODUCER - ROBERTSON MAJOR Nell wrote, directed and co-produced this Brit Shorts financed short starring Paul McGann ('Withnail & I') and Aiden Gillen ('Game of Thrones'). It screened at festivals including Cork, Dublin and Foyle and was short listed for the Turner Shorts competition.

April '00 CO-WRITER - FOR THE LOVE OF ART - Nell co-wrote two drafts of this conceptual thriller, based on the novel of the same name by Daniel Pennack, with Eve Mavrakis for Ewan McGregor to star in and produce.

Sep '00-03 - DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, IRISH FILM BOARD Nell oversaw three development rounds and allocated a development budget of over five hundred thousand dollars. Nell also led a series of in-house seminars on the fundamentals of story structure.

April '01 - Sept'02 - HEAD OF DEVELOPMENT, ELEMENT FILMS- Nell worked with producers Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe ('The Wind that Shakes the Barley') to develop a series of genre based projects for a first look deal with Universal Pictures- backed Kuhn Company. Nell had the opportunity of developing scripts and ideas with writers including playwright Enda Walsh (Hunger) and John McDonagh (The Guard)

Aug - Dec '98 - SCRIPT EDITOR & ASSISTANT TO DIRECTOR, Hallmark Entertainment

Editing scripts for 'Cleopatra', a 2 x 90 minute drama for ABC network, directed by Franc Roddam, starring Timothy Dalton and Billy Zane.

June '98 - FREELANCE SCRIPT EDITOR - Working closely with single writers, writers and producers and directors on projects at various stages of development, including James Flynn and Bill Kenwright.

Jan '97 June'98 - HEAD OF DEVELOPMENT, NATURAL NYLON ENTERTAINMENT - Nell spent two years at Natural Nylon, the company established by actors Jude Law, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewan McGregor, and producer Bradley Adams. At the time the company had a first look deal with Alliance Atlantic. While there, Nell worked with Irish director Pat Murphy on the period film 'Nora' with Ewan McGregor starring as James Joyce.

Dec '95-Jan'97 - SCRIPT EDITOR, UNION PICTURES- Union Pictures was the Bafta award-winning television production company of Franc Roddam ('Quadrophenia') and Bradley Adams. Nell worked in various capacities but her main role was story editing a twelve part period series in development with the BBC.

March '93- Dec '95 - ASSISTANT TO FRANC RODDAM , UNION PICTURES

Reading and providing coverage on all incoming projects for film director Franc Roddam, from his agent ICM in LA, and assisting Franc develop his own ideas.

Jan - Sept '93 - UK CORRESPONDENT FOR 'TV, TV' Channel Nine

Selecting clips of comic or topical interest from English TV programmes for a show monitoring international television.

Nov - March '92 - PRODUCTION ASSISTANT - Meaningful Eye Contact, Sydney

As well as learning the basics of a film production office, Nell assisted Alex Proyas who was in pre-production on 'The Crow'.
