In this intermediate level course, delivered over five intensive and practical days, you’ll learn essential technical and practical skills to work in post-production in unscripted TV. You will build a sound knowledge of the key skills required for employment as an Assistant Editor, and gain an understanding of career paths in post production

This unique course gives you the opportunity to learn and perform the fundamental and more advanced tasks of a TV Assistant Editor using Avid Media Composer, and leave ready to apply for work as an Assistant Editor. Delivered by industry expert and Avid Certified Instructor Rebecca Edwards who has 15 years’ industry experience, this is an opportunity to get to grips with an exciting and in-demand crew role and extend your employment capabilities

Is the Assistant Editor (Unscripted) Intensive right for you?

This intermediate level course is designed for students who are keen to understand the role of an assistant editor, using Avid Media Composer, and is suited to those with a technical curiosity. Some prior experience with Avid Media Composer or other editing software is strongly recommended.

Students who have already attended either Editing with Avid Fundamentals or Avid 101 Intensive, will be greatly advantaged as the role – and this course – requires a solid understanding of the principles of Avid Media Composer.

If your goal is to work in post production, this course will give you all the essential skills to enter as an Assistant Editor in today’s fast-paced, and largely freelance, production environment. You’ll learn all the technical skills you’ll need to fulfil this vital role, as well as gain some insight into seeking work as a freelancer.

What you will need

All course materials and equipment are provided.

This is a 100% computer-based course and you’ll be taught on a Mac, so you’ll need to be comfortable in that environment.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This course is for students aged 18+ only.

If a student wishes to withdraw from a course, they may do so up to 15 days before the course commences and get a full refund. Cancellations 14 days or less before course commencement will incur a penalty.

AFTRS reserves the right to cancel any course for any reason at any time. In the event of a course being cancelled by AFTRS prior to commencement a 100% refund or credit note of the course fees paid will be provided.

Should AFTRS need to cancel a course after commencement, but before its completion, reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule. If rescheduling is not feasible, it is at AFTRS’ sole discretion to issue either full or partial credit notes depending on the circumstances.

AFTRS will make every effort to ensure the scheduled run of any course.
