Jane Allen

Jane Allen is an accomplished screenwriter, script producer, and script editor with over 20 years’ experience in the film and television industry.

Recently Jane was a co-executive producer and writer on In Our Blood (Hoodlum Entertainment), a musical drama about Australia’s response to AIDS in the 1980s for the ABC. The series was nominated for the AACTA Award for Best Miniseries in 2024 and Most Outstanding Drama at the 2023 Logie Awards. She also produced and was the lead writer for the award-winning ABC legal drama Janet King – the first Australian primetime drama to feature a lesbian lead character. Janet King was a spinoff of the prosecution drama Crownies, on which Jane produced and led the writing team. Additionally, she was a writer and producer on the Indigenous sci-fi ABC series Cleverman, which won a Screen Producers Australia award for Best Drama Series Production in 2017.

Jane’s recent work includes writing Last King of the Cross (Helium/Paramount+); writing and script producing crime drama Troppo Series 1; 100% Wolf: Legend of the Moonstone (ABC / Flying Bark Productions); and Halifax: Retribution (Nine Network), which was nominated for a 2020 AACTA Award for Best Drama Series. She also wrote season two of The Heights (ABC), The New Legends of Monkey (Netflix), and The Unlisted, which won the 2020 Prix Jeunesse International Award for Outstanding Children’s Television.

Previous writing credits include Secret Daughter, Love Child, The Doctor Blake Mysteries, Tricky Business, McLeod’s Daughters, The Secret Life of Us, Blue Heelers, Stingers, MDA, and the children’s series Sam Fox: Extreme Adventures. Jane also worked as a script editor on the US series Hunters for Gale Anne Hurd (known for “The Terminator,” “Aliens,” “The Walking Dead”) and spent three months in the script department of CSI on an International Fellowship.

In May 2023, Jane completed Jeff Melvoin’s Showrunner Training in Los Angeles as part of The Creators’ Initiative, a program developed by the Australian Writers Guild and Screen Australia.
