AFTRS Descends Upon Cannes Film Festival

AFTRS students and alumni have taken over the world’s most prestigious film festival with everything from world premieres at Cinéfondation Selections and International Critics’ Week to Short Film Corner and Cannes Antipodes.

Short film Dots (MA, 2017) will have its world premiere in the official selection of the Cannes Cinéfondation section on Thursday 17 May at the Buñuel Theatre.

Thomas Wilson-White (MA,2017) is bringing The Greenhouse, the feature film he wrote and directed, to the Croisette.

Eugene Dyson (MA, 2017) writer and director of Shadows will present his film at the Short Film Corner and meet with Cannes festival programmers.

Current MA Year 2 student Laura Anna Lucas will accompany International Critics’ Week-selected Hector Malot: The Last Day of the Year (Dir. Jacqueline Lentzou) on which she was the production designer.

Finally, the Cannes Antipodes AFTRS Showcase on Thursday 17 May will feature Peel by Jane Campion (Dip Directing, 1983), Palme d’Or for Best Short Film 1986; Milk by Mairi Cameron (MA, 1998); The Dam by Brendon McDonall (MA, 2014), Cinefondation 1999; The Virgin by Jack Yabsley (Grad Cert Directing, 2016); Leg It by Rachel Mackey (BA Y3); and the world premiere of Cattle by Kerinne Jenkins (MA, 2017).
