Short Courses: What’s On in November?

With a rise in local and international productions across the country, the screen industry is experiencing a surge in demand for skilled professionals, with essential below-the-line roles needing to be filled. These roles encompass everything from editors to camera assistants to line producers and more—fundamental components that are vital to ensuring a successful production. As the industry continues to expand and diversify, the need for well-trained individuals to fill these specialised roles becomes more critical than ever.

AFTRS intensives and short courses are designed to give you the knowledge, confidence and foundational skills to step into these roles and build your career in the screen industry. Our intensives are held in our world-leading facilities, providing you with the perfect training ground to practice and perfect your skills. With 50 years’ experience and international recognition in screen and broadcast training, AFTRS is the ideal place to upskill and advance your career.

One of these in-demand roles is the Shooter-Producer. This role requires camera, audio and data wrangling skills, along with fundamental production knowledge. In our three-week TV Shooter Producer Intensive starting Monday, 20 November, you will learn all these practical skills and gain hands-on experience with a range of different equipment so you can consistently deliver professional standard, broadcast quality footage. Developed and delivered by industry experts, this course involves a range of practical exercises, ensuring you emerge with the confidence and expertise to succeed in the industry.

The camera department is another team that needs your specialist skills. Our Camera Assisting Intensive, delivered over three practical weeks from Monday, 27 November, will give you the tools to become an asset in the camera department of any film or TV production. Learn how to plan and prepare camera pre-production requirements, develop skills in on-set procedures—including focus pulling and rushes management—and gain a complete understanding of digital image capture processes, all while you work with industry standard equipment in our state-of-the-art studios.
