Screen Business Essentials: Navigating Growth

Following our highly successful two-day Screen Business Essentials course, our Screen Business Essentials: Navigating Growth provides a practical, real-world guide to ensure producers’ success when partnering and financing their next film or TV project. The partnerships entered, and the financing decisions made at the very beginning will impact the life of the project for many years – even decades – to come. It is essential to know your rights, and be well informed and strategic to ensure maximum returns on both a creative and financial level.

As a mid-career producer or small business owner, you now understand your obligations from a legal, employer and business perspective. On the creative side, you own the rights to a slate of long-form projects, in various stages of development.

So, what are the next steps when a project is ready to take to market, with a view to finding buyers and/or investors?

To give the project the best chance of success, you might need to partner with a more established production company to ensure buyer or investor confidence and give the project the best chance of success. If so, what sort of deal might be on offer?

Or, if your project is the perfect fit for an international co-production, what are the different co-pro models and how do you decide which one is the right fit for your project?

And now that the creative is well underway and you know what the budget range for your project is, how are you going to raise the finance and where is each line of the finance plan coming from?

Another important consideration – how does your finance plan impact the long tail of your project, where does the money go as it starts to recoup and in what position do you sit?

This course will cover –

  • Partnering with an established production company
  • International co-productions
  • Finance plans for feature films and TV series
  • Recoupment waterfalls
