Clare Sawyer

Professional Practice – Subject Leader

Clare is currently the Professional Practice Subject Leader at AFTRS and the Programmer for Young Readers at the Adelaide Writers Week. Her most recent producing credit is the hybrid documentary Recorder Queen featuring virtuoso musician Genevieve Lacey, which screened at Hot Docs, Canada in 2021. The broadcast version screened on ABC TV’s Compass.

From 2016-2018 Clare was the Head of Children’s and YA Programs for Sydney Writers Festival and the curator of the Sydney Film Festival’s Family Films from 2016 until 2019. Clare has also programmed events for Flickerfest, Dungog and Cockatoo Island Film Festivals and worked with the Youth Jury at Berlinale, Germany. From 2007-2010 Clare was Producer and General Manager of the IF (Inside Film) Awards which screened on SBS TV and Showtime. In her hometown of Melbourne, she produced five award-winning films that screened at numerous international film festivals and the one-hour drama The Forest which screened on ABC TV and in the Calling Cards section of Telluride Film Festival.

Clare is an experienced Producer, Event Manager and Curator with a demonstrated history of working in the arts industry and delivering public programs with a focus on youth. A recent career highlight was her role as Event Manager of the Arts/Marine Science Seaweed Forests Festival in Sydney 2021. She has a Post Graduate Diploma in Film & TV from VCA School of Film & TV and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons).
