AFTRS' Indigenous supports and identifies pathways for talented Indigenous storytellers.

With a long and proud history of providing deep learning in film literacy and the broadcast industries enabling our storytellers to be authorities of their craft AFTRS is a national and global leader in education and training.

AFTRS Indigenous facilitates and delivers:

"As the great film maker Rachel Perkins reminds us with consummate elegance – the first plank in the construct that makes Australia unique is being home to the longest continuous human culture and settlement. This is something that no one else can claim. These cultures were and are about place, land, people and stories. The stories have been handed down from generation to generation across more than 40,000 years. As the chair of AFTRS, one of a handful of national cultural institutions, I take this very seriously.

Now AFTRS is only a little over 40 years old, but we have an important cultural remit. To tell stories, to develop expertise, to help make them available, to equip young people to cope and excel in a new world – yet  deeply steeped in the knowledge of the past."
