Matthew Dabner

Lecturer - Screenwriting

Trained at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts Matthew Dabner started his film career working in the story department at Icon Productions in Los Angeles.

Returning to Australia in 1999 Matthew went on to work as the Head of Development for Alex Proyas at Mystery Clock Cinema, where he developed I, Robot.

His credits as a writer include the AFI-nominated contemporary noir, The Square, co-written with Joel Edgerton, directed by Nash Edgerton, and the short film Cryo, directed by Academy Award nominee Luke Doolan.

Matthew credits as a producer include Cedar Boys, an IF Award nominee for Best Film and Sydney Film Festival Audience Award winner.

He has consulted for a variety of screen funding agencies in Australia, including Screen Australia’s production investment division, advising management and the Board on feature film investments across the 2010 and 2011 slate.

In addition to being a screenwriter and producer Matthew is also a renowned script editor, assessor and development executive.
