Case Study: Enhancing Presentation Skills for NSW Department of Customer Service

Jacinta Tynan, Jess Campanaro and Melissa Femia delivering AFTRS Customised Training for the NSW Department of Customer Service

AFTRS offers customised training in communication and presentation skills for organisations, delivered by our team of outstanding industry practitioners. Take a look at the impact of Presentation Skills and Storytelling training on the NSW Department of Customer Service in our case study below.

The People and Culture team in the NSW Department of Customer Service provides key support to business areas and senior personnel to help them achieve their outcomes while building “a strong organisational culture that keeps our core values front and centre.”

Challenge:

The People and Culture team identified a need to enhance their presentation skills to effectively communicate information, support data-driven decision making, and influence senior leadership. The team needed to find training that would enhance their presentation skills, helping them build compelling stories and highlight the most critical information clearly and concisely.

Solution:

The team enrolled in customised training from AFTRS For Business. The Presentation Skills and Storytelling course, led by Jacinta Tynan with fellow subject matter experts Jess Campanaro and Melissa Femia on campus over one day, provided the presentation and communication skills that the People and Culture team sought after. The course focused on structuring content, presentation preparation and the differences between presenting in-person and online. Participants had the opportunity to present to camera, allowing them to critically analyse their own presentation and implement real-time feedback.

Results:

Feedback provided by participants of the Presentation Skills and Storytelling training has been overwhelmingly positive. The course offered clear frameworks to develop compelling stories and enhance their presentation skills so that they can share their knowledge and confidently engage with senior leaders.

Participants emphasised how the training helped them narrow down their messages and present the most critical information during their sessions. The opportunity to practice in front of a camera proved invaluable, helping the participants identify areas of improvement and put tutor feedback into practice.

“By completing the AFTRS training, our people are now armed with practical strategies to improve their presentations. The hands-on exercises have improved the confidence of our people in presenting information and fine-tuned their presentation style so that they are able to share their knowledge with clarity.”
