Short Courses: What's On in October?

LED Volume Studio set up in AFTRS Studio 1
LED Volume set up in Studio 1 for Open Day

Virtual production is all the talk in the screen industry right now. It gives us the ability to mix virtual craft with the live-action elements on set, and the opportunity to create extraordinary visual landscapes that truly push the boundaries. In the words of AFTRS virtual production and visual effects expert Krista Jordan, “we can tell stories that we haven’t previously been able to tell in the same way.”

At Open Day this year, ABC Weekend Breakfast visited our campus to see our virtual production set up in Studio 1, featuring our mighty LED Volume. Krista spoke about the benefits of the technology and its implementation in productions such as Hollywood blockbuster Thor: Love and Thunder and ABC series Fires.

In our Intro to Volume Studio Basics short course, you can witness the impressive LED Volume yourself and discover the awe-inspiring capabilities of virtual production. Lead by Krista, this two-hour seminar session is the perfect introduction to the emerging roles in this space, providing a platform for producers, cinematographers, production designers, directors or visual effects artists to continue learning. Join us Thursday, 19 October on campus and kickstart your virtual production journey.

In virtual production and across a variety of screen productions, the role of a producer is critical to overseeing a successful project from start to finish. Our Intro to Producing and Screen Business short course looks at the roles and responsibilities of a producer and how their creative and business decision-making brings screen stories to life.

Delivered by AFTRS MASB Program Convenor Peter Herbert and industry expert Dr. Pieter Aquilia, this online course will look at the research and development, finance and funding aspects of producing through case studies and real-world advice, and teach you the most effective and efficient ways to produce a project. Join us Monday, 9 October for this insightful look into the world of screen production and business.

For producers looking to step up their business growth and project development, join our Screen Business Essentials: Online course starting Thursday, 12 October. Presented with Screen Producers Australia, this two-day online intensive brings together industry experts from business, accounting and legal sectors to help you navigate the essentials of setting up and running a screen business. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a fun, fast-paced digital speed networking event with your fellow screen professionals.
